The QMS Society

When the Founders, Miss Denny and Miss Geoghegan, planned for retirement, they formed the non-profit Queen Margaret’s Trust Society in 1954. Now, Queen Margaret’s School is constituted as a non-profit society under the Society Act of British Columbia, and each family of a student currently enrolled at the school is entitled to a free membership to the Society. Other family members and members of the QMS community are also eligible to become members. The Society currently has just over 250 members.

But what does it mean to be a member of the QMS Society? More than anything, it means having a direct say in the governance of the school – only members of the QMS Society can elect the Board of Governors each fall at the Society’s Annual General Meeting, or stand for election as a Governor. Additionally, certain activities of the Board can only be carried out with approval of the Society, such as the appointment of chair of the Nominating Committee.

If you are interested in the high-level decision making that takes place at QMS, attend the AGM and familiarize yourself with the members of the board and governance structure that oversees the school.
